Increased Reliability & Decreased Running Costs

We have successfully completed our first Evoco repairs using a Gaia Head. The first Evoco to be given the treatment is our own and is in Scotland. It was fitted in July and has been running since commissioned on the 25th of July and has already achieved 4500 kw hrs which is an average of around 100KWh per day on a site with a wind speed of 6.2 m/s.

The tower is an Evoco 12m tower shortened to meet engineering and planning criteria. The installation is rated at 10 kw and supplies electricity via an inverter to a local G 83 connection. John Walton has great confidence in the Gaia repair. The Gaia is beautifully simple and thus much more of a reliable machine with service and repair costs a fraction of those of the Evoco. It is a well proven and a productive design with an operational history going back over 20 years. With the old feed in tariffs applicable now, the installation and purchase costs will typically be covered in 3-7 years with the remainder to cover any losses to date and offer a good return on investment. The Gaia is designed to have a 25 year life span and will offer a viable plant beyond the term of the FIT for those with, or able to create, a reasonable on site demand. It is also fully insurable. Other advantages include a significant drop in noise levels and of course the peace of mind. We are also looking at other turbine makes and have completed a Gaia repair head swap on a Hannevind.

Installation includes engineering verification of an appropriate repair as well as foundation bolt upgrade in line with recent HSE. advice. The historical performance of the Evoco can, in some circumstances, be used as a good predictor of the performance of the repair but not always indicative of the true potential without knowledge and experience to apply the information.
